The November Paint-Together

Those who attended the November Paint-Together had way too much fun making holiday baskets and cards.  Renee J. demonstrated basket making and let us delve into her supply of decorative items to decorate our baskets.  Lots of thanks to Renee!

Rather than a paint-together in December, we will celebrate the holidays with a no host dinner at Lands' End.  More on that will be announced soon.

Renee needs our help on Saturday September 2nd

A little reminder to those coming to the card making work party "Paint In" on Saturday September 2nd from 1-4 at Homer Art and Frame:

Be sure to bring glue sticks, small paper cutters (if you have one), scissors , and extra collage material like rice paper.  My thought is for each of you to make one or two cards to fill up the Fireweed Box and then you can make some for your own supply.  I really need help on this, so I hope some of you can come even for a little while.
Renee. :)

Rehanging the corner at Fireweed

Trina and Nina will be rehanging the corner this next Thursday and will need your paintings by the close of business on Wednesday August 30th.  If you have older paintings that have been up for more than 2 months please come and get those & bring us something new if you can.

Plein Air Painting July 13

🎨This week's plein air painting outing will be Thursday morning (9:00 I assume) at Cindy Nelson's studio and back yard which is currently in bloom. Karen said she will bring bagels from the bagel shop for the painters (yum!). Cindy's parents are in town and they wanted to include them in the experience.

Call 299-4163 to get directions to Cindy's and also to give Karen an idea of how many bagels to get.

Cheers to all from Michael Murray

Gayle Weisfield Workshop September 2017

Dear Members and Friends,

Please consider joining us this fall for an exciting new adventure into water color expression with Gayle Weisfield. Many of you have been to her web site and are just waiting for the formal official offering.

I had the pleasure of meeting Gayle in April in Washington. I am very confident she will bring us a new perspective and skill set that we can weave into our own work.

She will be using her "bogaboards" that she designed in the '70s for half sheets. They will be offered at a discount to participants of the workshop if you choose to purchase one (more on that later as we will need a head count.) You will also be able to use your own preference, for example gator board and staples. The goal is to facilitate working with wet paper yet being able to stabilize it, as it dries, keeping it flat.

I will have more to share as time goes on. Please send me questions or thoughts and also start setting aside photos you want to work with, and or challenging topics within the "landscape" category. She wants to help us paint our environment.

So for now I will sign off and say congratulations to all who are part of the current Watercolor show at Fireweed. Happy Spring--- now leading the charge into summer.

Take care,
Marilyn Kirkham

Plein Aire Painting Experience

Cindy, Karen and I made it out to Lighthouse village this morning for a few hours of painting and little discussions about composition. perspective, simplification, value, etc. It was relaxed and informal.

The next planned paint out will be a week from Friday (May 19) Some are planning to meet at Wild Honey (formerly Maura's next to Bunnell) for breakfast at 9:00 followed by painting around 10:00 behind Beluga Lodge overlooking the slough for the next plein aire painting experience. If the weather is rainy they will go to the gazebo at Bishop's Beach as an alternative location. This is open to anyone who wants to paint or draw in any medium. (I'll be there if jury duty does not occur).

Also remember to mark your calendar for the 2nd weekend in June for a Seward Paint Out (all weekend) and the 2nd weekend in August in Homer for another plein aire paint out.  Andie Sonneborn is the organizer behind these two gatherings in any medium.  These are usually well attended by artists from throughout the state and sometimes beyond and great fun.

Keep painting!!!!

Michael Murray

Missing pieces for this year's collaborative

We still have 2 missing pieces from this year's collaborative. Please turn them in to Lynda at Homer Art and Frame as soon as possible. We need time to have the pieces scanned (for making prints) and put together for framing. The Fireweed Gallery will also need an image for advertising our upcoming Spring Show.

Please Join us on Facebook !

I started a Kachemak Bay Watercolor Society Group on Facebook.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/459249684198807/

I chose "Kachemak Dawn" a 16" x 20" Watercolor by Donna Stafford Martin as our cover photo.

You are welcome to join us and post your latest artwork or ideas there.

I've only added or invited a few members that I am sure of. If you are friends with anyone on facebook who is a member of our Kachemak Bay Watercolor Society, PLEASE feel free to add them.

If you would like to help administer this page, just let me know.

Thanks,
Colleen

Monthly Paint-In Saturday March 4th

This coming Saturday is our monthly paint-in.
First a reminder to all the people who took a piece for the new collaborative. We agreed to get those back at this March gathering so if you (like me) are not done (or started) put it on your calendar and set time to complete it.  Remember to make the initials subtle so they don't distract from the overall piece. Put your full name on the back in pencil.

Our paint in will include a time for tips and requests for information and questions.
Then we will dedicate the rest of the time to painting much like what we did last month which was very successful (we will avoid Lilies this time due to allergies :).

Snacks (healthy or not) are always welcomed.

February Paint-together

Our February Paint-together will be all about flowers - a great solution to winter blues and getting in the mood for Valentine celebrations.  We will set up a floral arrangement that you can paint - whole or part.    If you want, we can also watch Eric Wiegardt's video "Flowers Free & Easy" or, if I can find it, Janet Rogers video on floral painting.

If you have a painting you would like critiqued or want input regarding any aspect of the painting, please bring it and we will share our thoughts.  We also welcome "tips & techniques," if you have any to share, we want to hear them.

We still have three pieces of our collaborative available to paint.  If you haven't taken a piece to paint yet, please come by and get one at Homer Art.  We need to have all the sections completed before the end of March to allow for photography and framing before our May show.

Snacks are always welcome.  A warm full tummy helps us create beautiful things!

Paint-Together is FREE for members, $10 for Guests.
See you at our Paint-together.

The next collaborative

We passed out some segments of the next collaborative at the January gathering but there are still sections left. You can contact Lynda at Homer Art and Frame to get a piece.

Be sure your name is on the back when you turn it in. Subtle initials on the front work best so they are not distracting to the entire piece.

Thank YOU Nina. For this beautiful digital image.

Our First KBWS Paint-Together of 2017

Don't miss January's Paint-together! Saturday January 7, 2017 - this is also the day the Fireweed is closing so if you have not picked up any work you have there please do so between now and Saturday.

We will be painting from a live model.  From 1 until 1:30 is set up, "Critique Corner," and "Tips & Techniques."  Also a chance to socialize.   Our model, Shasta, will start posing at 1:30.

If you have a painting you would like critiqued or want input regarding any aspect of the painting, please bring it to show and we will share our thoughts.  We also welcome "tips & techniques," if you have any to share, we want to hear them.

Our newest Collaborative is now ready to distribute.   You can draw for your piece of the Collaborative at this Saturday's Paint-Together.  If you cannot attend, ask someone to draw for you or call Lynda at Homer Art (435-3999) and one will be randomly selected for you.

Snacks are always welcome.  A warm full tummy helps us create beautiful things!
Paint-Together is FREE for members, $10 for Guests.

See you at our Paint-together.
